18 Hydrangeas to Know and Grow: Posted by Ruth A gallery of gorgeous hydrangeas. Learn more about them in Fine...

According to my landscape plan, I was to place several Coral Bell plants beside my Green Velvet Boxwoods.  I found the “Obsidian” cultivar that was recommended in my plan, but they were selling at $23/each, which is ridiculous for a small weedy looking plant.

The garden salesperson said it was because it was a heirloom…but I’m not convinced.

Regardless, I was back at “Northland Nurseries” (See my blog entry on this nursery), and picked up “Blackout”, which is almost as dark as Obsidian (but not quite).  In fact, Obsidian is considered the darkest of all Coral Bells.

Anyway, I bought and planted it, and I have to admit, they look sharp.   They contrast nicely with the boxwoods.  I’m looking forward to next year, when they get bigger.
